HAPPY FALL

Budget Public Hearing

The board has been working on the 2026 budget throughout this month and has had the opportunity to review feedback and ideas from residents. A public hearing for the proposed 2026 Budget will be held during the October regular board meeting on Wednesday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the mail building. Residents are welcome to attend.

Take a Few Minutes - Clean Up

The District is asking all residents to help keep our storm drains clear by cleaning the curb, gutter, and street in front of your home (and along the side if you live on a corner). Even a small amount of leaves and debris adds up, and removing it makes a big difference. Our semi-annual street cleaning won’t take place until early November, and it is far more effective when larger debris is cleared throughout the fall - especially as we are likely to see more heavy rainstorms. Thank you to everyone who takes a few minutes to help with this important task!

Pond Area Update

The status of the pond has been a concern for many years. The District has monitored water levels and run evaporation studies, with the expectation that the pond would eventually dry up. At the start of this summer, the gauge in the center of the pond measured 18 inches of water. As we all know, the season was extremely hot and dry, and the pond ultimately dried up completely, leaving only two small pools at either end - even after heavy rains.

After years of investigation, consultation with experts, input from residents, and a full drainage study completed this year, the Board is now focusing on how the pond open space can be reimagined into something more usable. The District is currently working with a landscaper to develop several alternatives. These concepts will prioritize preserving native plants and trees, ensuring proper drainage (such as through a meandering seasonal stream or detention pond area), and creating usable open space for residents.

The Board expects to receive these alternatives by the end of the year. Modest funds have been included in the proposed 2026 budget to support continued planning for the pond area, including gathering resident input on any proposed changes.

ADU/Tiny Home Update

In July, we shared information regarding ADUs and Tiny Homes within the district. Since then, the Board has been working with legal counsel to address questions raised by residents. At the September 17th Board Meeting, the Board reviewed a proposed Resolution that would clarify how the ADU policy applies to Tiny Homes on Wheels (THOW) and RVs.  The Board decided to table the Resolution while they consult further with the district’s attorney and seek a second legal opinion. Consequently, the district is not taking further action regarding THOWs at this time.

Please Review Your Bill

All residents are asked to take an extra moment to review your next bill and ensure your payment matches the actual amount due. Because charges vary based on water use and late fees, residents who have autopay through their individual banks set for the base rate may fall behind without realizing it. Please note that the District is not responsible for post office or bank errors with this type of autopay, which can result in checks being sent to the wrong P.O. Box and delays in reaching the Durango post office.

The most efficient way to pay your bill is through the District’s full autopay/electronic funds transfer service. With this option, your monthly DW2 fees are automatically deducted from your bank account on the 5th of each month for the exact amount you owe. This ensures your bill is always paid in full and helps the District save time and money that would otherwise go toward tracking down late payments.

If you have any questions, please call the office at 259-3946 or email dw2@dgowest2.com.

Sewer Service Lines

The District is not responsible for residential sewer lines and is not liable for sewer back-ups so residents are encouraged to check their homeowner insurance policy. It is also recommended to inspect your lines periodically.  RotoRooter, M&R and other companies provide this service.

Find Your Water Shutoff

If you don't know where your main outside water shut off is located, now is the time to locate it. Usually, it is along your service line between your house and curb but not always.  Some residents have landscaped over theirs. It needs to be well marked and accessible; and you need to have a tool to reach it and shut off your water in an emergency and avoid costly water overages.

If you can’t locate your outside water shut off, you can contact our water operator to assist you for a fee or contact Novo Utility Services, Tommy Novotny at 303-999-9892 who can help you. www.novoutilityservices.com. Please let the district know when you find it so we can add it to our GIS database.

District Policies

District policies are found on our website under the About Us tab and directly at this link:  https://www.dgowest2.com/policies. Please note that all policies of the board are subject to change, so check back with our website for any updates.

Fire Hydrants - Three Foot Clearance

If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please keep it accessible year-round.  Now is a great time to remove shrubs, branches, etc that block visual and physical access.  There should be a three-foot clear circle around the hydrant.

Next Board Meeting is October 15th  at 5 p.m. at the Mail House.
